Open lecture about Ukrainian forced migrants

Ukrainian forced migrants - the adaptation of the Polish education system to the challenges related to the influx of students from Ukraine.

Open lecture on Wednesday, 17 April 2024 from 16:00 – 17:00 in Lossi 36-306

The subject of the presentation will be about Polish public education in response to the inflow of a large number of students from Ukraine and the challenges related to the need to change and adapt to their specificity and needs. Data will be presented from a field study in the western region of Poland in various school institutions and neighbourhood communities inhabited by Ukrainian migrants and refugees. The mentioned challenges will be presented in a broader context regarding the labour market, housing market, and various forms of support for Ukrainian refugees provided by different state institutions, civil society agencies, and grassroots initiatives. It will also be an opportunity to present the potential and capacity of responses to challenges analyzed from the perspective of historical Polish-Ukrainian relations.

Jakub Isański, assistant professor at the Department of Sociology, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland; visiting scholar at Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies, Harvard University. Involved in the research of Ukrainian forced refugee diaspora in Central and Eastern Europe, civil society, and NGOs' capacity and responses to the migratory crisis, as well as bottom-up initiatives in Polish society for the reception and inclusion of refugees.
