Harassing, trolling, online bullying. Being rude is like a new social standard in the online environment. Violence and threats on the Internet can be different for people who define themselves as women than for men. There are professions, such as journalists or web constables, that attract trolls particularly well, and harassment along with it. Why is that? What's the solution?
We invite all interested in the intersections for gender and media literacy to participate in the virtual event "MIL & Gender & Digital Micro-Interventions" on 29 November 13.00-15.30 (EET).
Signe Ivask (PhD) will introduce her findings on online harassment of journalists. Captain Maarja Punak will examplify the connection between gender, occupation and the online environment at two levels: the concerns of those who have approached her as a web constable for help, and her own personal experience, having patrolled the web with their image and face as a woman. Our Associate Professor, Maria Murumaa-Mengel, will speak about both traditional and innovative interventions and solutions.
Worksup's agenda for the day is here.
Register for the event here.
We will not be saving the email addresses into any lists or use them in any other way, it's just a troll filter. If you have any questions, please contact Maia Klaassen on social media or via e-mail at maia.klaassen@ut.ee
