Professor René Kemp: Humanization of Economy

The Institute of Social Sciences is hosting a guest lecture by Professor René Kemp. He is well-known for his work on strategic niche management, sociotechnical regime shifts and transition management. He has a background in (environmental) economics and innovation studies and is a self-taught expert on the sociology of knowledge, public policy and political economy.

Professor Kemp will give a lecture "humanization of Economy" on November 7 at 16:15 (Lossi 36-215). In his lecture, innovation-expert René Kemp will discuss marketization as a source of inequality and anxiety, in turning people into competitions, pathologies of the social welfare state and the need for social innovation based cooperation, mutuality, reciprocity, asset-sharing, nurturing and caring.

About the speaker: René Kemp is well-known for his work on sustainability transitions on which he contributed seminal articles and advised the Dutch government. The last few years he studied social innovation and urban lab projects. Like many others, he became interested in the possibilities for an alternative economy, which is less exploitive of people and nature. He works at Maastricht University as professor of innovation and sustainable development
