Veebiseminar: Pille Pruulmann-Vengerfeldt, „Making time to write“

As aspiring academics, it is oftentimes difficult to prioritise the actual writing process. When one then balances other work and family obligations, teaching, hobbies and other (often more pleasurable activities), the actual writing takes a second place, making us feel guilty and spiralling into questioning our self-worth or even our capacity to write a thesis. In this lecture, I will share with you some ideas and experiences as to how to make time to write. The class is inspired by the idea that it is not about having time or not having time but about making time and making space for productive, engaged and pleasurable writing. So, it is about regaining control over our writing time to be more productive as well as finding more ways to make writing a pleasurable experience.

Pille Pruulmann-Vengerfeldt is a professor in media and communication, Malmö University since November 2016 and has previously worked in University of Tartu as a professor in media studies (2014-2016).

Her research interests have focused around cultural citizenship and participation and engagement in museums, libraries and public broadcasting. She has also worked on the topic of internet users and social applications of new technologies. She has been an active member in the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA) and in NordMedia networks. Pille is currently the international director of European Media and Communication Doctoral Summer School. She has published over a hundred articles both in journals and as book chapters and has been in the team of editors for more than ten books.

Ühiskonnateaduste instituut korraldab kirjutamisteemalist seminarisarja ja seekordne seminar on järjekorras teine. Instituudi publitseerimisele pühendatud seminaride sari võtab fookusesse erinevaid teadustöö publitseerimisega seotud teemasid. Esimesel kohtumisel rääkis Malmö Ülikooli professor Pille Pruulmann-Vengerfeldt sellest, kuidas võtta (ja leida) aega teadusartiklite kirjutamiseks. Sarja teises osas annab Maria Murumaa-Mengel nõu, kuidas enda teaduspublikatsioone nii rahvusvahelisele teadlaskogukonnale kui laiemale üldsusele sotsiaalmeedia abil paremini nähtavaks muuta. Teaduspublitseerimisele pühendatud sari jätkub jaanuaris Laur Kangeri seminariga, kus saab mõtteid vahetada teaduspublikatsioonide mõjukuse teemal.
